Our go-cart by Jack and Liam

We have been making a go-cart during open door Friday this year.
First, we got cupboard boxes and we stuck them together with highlighted yellow stickers.
Stan and Cal helped us.
Then we went outside and tested the go-cart to see how strong it was.
We climbed up the tower and chucked it down onto the ground.
It stayed in one piece.
Then we went to the smaller monkey bars and launched it.
 The go-cart survived.
After that, we made a plan for what to do next. We made a list of what we needed and we planned how the wheels would go onto the wood.

After we got the pieces of wood we cut them to the right size.
We screwed the wheel brackets onto the wood and we screwed the long planks on.
Then we measured the wood to check it was the right length for the cupboard boxes.
We were trying to make the go-cart strong so we could sit in it.

Coby came over to help us and we hammered and drilled pieces onto the gocart.

We even tested the go-cart on the hill to see if it would hold together.

Then we tested it to see if it could hold someone.

To make the cardboard part stronger we tried to cut a wooden base.
Finally we tested the go-cart with the box on but the wheels  kept moving around and the bolts came off because the wood split.  It's back to the drawing board to see if we can come up with a new plan to try and fix it.

New Zealand Birds - By the Bunny Hoppers

Today the Bunny Hoppers read a book about New Zealand Birds.

We made a book about what we learned!

T15's Books - Kei te Pēhea Koe?

Check out our facial expressions!!

This week we have been learning some new te reo Māori phrases.

Kei te pēhea koe? How are you?

hiamoe tired hiakai hungry pai good pōuri sad riri angry koa happy

We made books on Book Creator in te reo Māori.

We had to take turns with our buddies and share the iPad. We also learned how to work together and be helpful.

We had to look over our buddies shoulder to check if they are doing the words right.

At the end, we had to do editing to put in full stops and capital letters. We also got to change the font and backgrounds colours.

We are programmers!

This week during maths we have been learning about writing directions.

We have been talking about 1/4 turns and learning to listen to and follow instructions.

Each person had a different job

Programmer - write the instructions

Bot - listens to the tester and move

Tester - reads the instructions out to the bot

We got to take turns of being each one.

We had to control and programme the bee bots to move to different spaces.

We took turns with our buddy and practised our sharing.

We liked watching where the bee bots went. Sometimes they went a bit crazy when we pressed different buttons. It was too funny to watch.

How to become a kiwi guardian...

In the weekend I went on a walk to Godley Head with my family. While I was walking some people told us that if you find a post with a picture on it you can take a photo and send it in. Then they send you a wooden medal. We found the post on the walk and took a photo. We followed the directions on the post and sent the photo in.  I then got a medal in my mailbox.
Look at all the places you can visit in Christchurch.  Click here to see where the different places are.

Retelling Maui and the Sun

In Tī Kōuka we have been reading lots of different Maori myths and legends.

We read different versions of the myth, Maui and the Sun.

Then we roleplayed and took photos of the main parts of the myth.

We used the photos to help retell the myth in our writing books.

Next, we used Book Creator to publish our myths.

Using Book Creator, we learnt how to insert photos and draw.

We also learnt how to add sound. We had to read our writing on the correct photo.

It was tricky to find a quiet place to record the story.

We added our finished stories to ClassDojo to share with our families but unfortunately, ClassDojo didn't keep the sound file in time with the video.
