Koru Art

This week we learnt how to draw koru patterns.

"The koru is a spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling silver fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing, where it symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace".

We had to practice on whiteboards first because it was really tricky. Some of us got frustrated but we didn't give up. We knew we just couldn't do it YET...

but with lots of practice and trying different ways, we could all draw korus.  Look at our amazing artwork.

What we have been doing during ACTIVE play this week.

We made sock puppets from old socks. They were amazing.

We had fun making tunnels in the sandpit.

Lots of building and measuring was happening at the carpentry table.

The boys making the go-cart are continuing with modifications.

 We love skipping.

Reading is also a favourite during Active Play.

Using ClassDojo during maths time.

This week during our independent maths activities we have been using ClassDojo to show our work and thinking. We know great mathematician share there thinking. We used the microphone button on ClassDojo to share our thinking. At the end of maths, we watched each other's videos to see if we agree or disagree. We know it is okay to make mistakes because that's how we learn.

Ahyeon and Stan taught some people in T14 how to play Rummikub.
 It was fun!

T15 - Tower Building Maths

This week in T15 we watch this video that Mrs Townsend made with her class toy Hank the Hedgehog.

Some of us practised all of the different ways to make 10.

Some of us talked about teen and ty numbers and made a tower with teen numbers.

Some of us even practised sharing our ideas of skip counting by 5.

We made a class book on Book Creator sharing our learning with you!
