Bugs and a special visitor

Edouard's poppa came to visit Tī Kōuka to teach us about bugs and help us work out what bugs we might find for our upcoming trip to Spencer Park.
We learned about a big word called Biodiversity.
(Bio means life)

Rudd explained about ecosystem services. This is some of the things that bugs do:

  • they pollinate flowers
  • they are food for animals
  • eat poos(recycling)
  • eat deadwood (recycling)
  • dung removal
  • help to spread seeds
  • transport -Pseudoscorpion and the fly
  • farm fungi
  • food for plants
  • clean water

Rudd brought some bugs for us to look at that we might find at Spencer Park.

We are also going to look for springtails, ladybirds, maggots, litter hoppers, worms, flies...
